Sharon Carrillo, 33, and Julio Carrillo, 51, were arrested on Feb. 28 in Stockton Springs, Maine, for murder after they beat Middletown native Marissa Kennedy on a daily basis, causing injuries that killed her on Feb. 25, the Bangor Daily News reported.
According to the police affidavit, the Carrillos failed to take Marissa to a hospital after she stopped walking and couldn’t speak following a beating. Police reported the couple told police that Marissa had fallen while playing, said the BDN.
Marissa’s grandparents, Roseann and Joe Kennedy of New Windsor, played a large role in her life for the first seven years, until her mother married Carrillo and they moved to Maine, BDN said.
After the Carrillos moved to Bangor, school officials and a cleaning lady contacted officials to report concerns of abuse, the newspaper reported.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brooks Funeral Home on Gidney Avenue in Newburgh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Mary's Church on South Street in Newburgh.
“Marissa’s life may have been short but she was truly loved by those who knew her,” her obituary states. “She enjoyed her time in New Windsor and loved the company of family and friends. She loved to swim, read, dance, build Legos, watch movies and attend car shows. Her smile would light up a room. She was the Love of our lives.”
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to Maine Children’s Trust, Inc., 56 Leighton Road, Augusta, ME 04330 in memory of Marissa Kennedy. Website: www.mechildrenstrust.org.
